Study Program Overview
Information about 2011 ELTF study programs is available on the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations website. The 2010 ELTF China study program comprised three weeks of intensive language and cultural study, including field trips. Awardees departed Australia on 30 December 2009 and arrived back by 23 January 2010.
The program format was an integrated program providing fourteen days of language training and cultural activities at two different institutions, as well as a range of field trip activities spread over the three-week period.
Phase 1 of the program took place at Nanjing University (NJU) in Nanjing, two hours from Shanghai. At NJU, the program was delivered by the Institute for International Students, which is highly regarded as a language and cultural training provider. Phase 2 occurred at Fujian Normal University (FJNU) in the southerly city of Fuzhou, and provided opportunities for Awardees to focus on teaching Chinese as a foreign language. During both phases of the language training Awardees were accommodated in student accommodation at the universities in twin share rooms.
Field trip activities in the program provided opportunities for Awardees to develop their knowledge of Chinese language and culture, through participation in a range of different activities and site visits to major city areas, as well as rural and regional areas of cultural and historical significance. Awardees had the opportunity to interact with members of the local community, improve their language proficiency, and collect authentic resources.
