Study Program Overview
Information about 2011 ELTF study programs is available on the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations website.The 2010 ELTF Japan study program comprised three weeks of intensive language and cultural study, including field trips. Awardees departed Australia on 30 December 2009 and arrived back by 23 January 2010.
The program format consisted of two weeks language and cultural training and the equivalent of a seven-day field trip. The language training component took place at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) in Beppu, south Japan. Beppu, a spa town in the Ōita-ken region of Japan, offers Awardees an opportunity to enjoy the daily lifestyle and culture of traditional and modern Japan. APU also arranged a two-night farm stay during the language training component. Farm stay enabled Awardees to become immersed in the language and culture of Japan, as well as make new and lasting friendships.
During the language training program Awardees were accommodated in single rooms in the on-campus student accommodation at APU.
The field trip incorporated a range of activities in different parts of Japan to enable Awardees to maximise their professional learning opportunities. Awardees had the opportunity to interact with members of the local community, improve their language proficiency and collect authentic language and cultural resources in major city areas as well as rural and regional areas of historical and cultural significance.
The Group Leaders for the 2010 ELTF Japan study program were Kathryn Tominaga, Leah Bramhill and Margaret Imai, whose role was to:
- accompany and work with Awardees to support and extend their learning;
- assist Awardees to gain the most from their experience;
- assist in managing program logistics and finances;
- liaise with program deliverers and travel providers; and
- assist in the smooth running of the program.
In addition to the information provided on this site, Awardees:
